Separation anxiety is such a common challenge for dogs. The good news is that it is very treatable! There is a large body of research that supports systematic desensitization as the treatment of choice for separation anxiety with a high level of success when implemented correctly. That being said, systematic desensitization is a slow and demanding process, often involving plateaus and regression. With consistency and data-based decision-making though, dogs who experience separation anxiety have a strong prognosis.
